1.5.12 ~ The snow hasn’t been exactly the greatest so far – it is another ‘unwinter’ kind of year. December was a charm, with some decent snow blessing us – although short-lived. Still I have been trying to get out on what we do have. I think we can all agree; a not so great snow day in the backcountry is still better than no day in the backcountry.
On January 5th, I made some turns with a friend above Hidden Valley on the Ute Ridge in RMNP. We didn’t encounter ice, which was nice, but the snowpack is thin and packed. Looking at the weather models ahead though, I think we can stay hopeful. Be safe out there!
